Since 2009, founder Jenice Jones has built a program that walks with justice-involved women through a minimum 24-month, 7-level Empowerment Program — court advocacy, mentorship, and intensive individual and group sessions for women in diversion, transition, or on parole. Over 15 years, 185 women have graduated, and the program reports a 93% success rate.
Their Career Development track covers Tulsa Tech tuition, adds a weekly opportunity grant while participants are in school, and includes help with job placement — open to men and women with prior or current justice involvement. Their Community Outreach work extends inside Oklahoma Department of Corrections facilities.

If you've ever seen a Smithsonian traveling exhibit pop up in a small Oklahoma town, that's their Museum on Main Street program. If your library has hosted a scholar-led book club, that's Let's Talk About It — still running this season in towns like Woodward, Pauls Valley, and Ponca City. They also publish Oklahoma Humanities magazine and have long made grants to local humanities projects across the state.
That picture changed in April 2025, when the National Endowment for the Humanities terminated the general operating grant that covered most of their budget. They're still operating — on a reduced scale, with emergency support from the Mellon Foundation — and Let's Talk About It is running an abridged season while they rebuild.
Statewide, boots-on-the-ground nonprofit work like this deserves to be easy to find. Now you know they exist.

For anyone struggling with trauma, homelessness, or exploitation, NBI's Restoration Program offers one-on-one and group trauma therapy — and a free e-course for those who want to start on their own.
